In May 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released a detailed report outlining the way to reach Net-zero (a balance between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and the carbon removed from it) by the year 2050.
According to the report, the main ways to solve the climate problem lie in seven main ways of coping:
Switching to renewable energies (solar, wind, hydro etc.)
Energy efficiency for buildings, vehicles, and household appliances.
Electrification of areas that are currently working on fuel.
Biofuels - use of biomethane for heating, electricity, and transportation.
Switching to renewable energies (solar, wind, hydro etc.)
CCUS - capturing, utilizing, and storing carbon.
Hydrogen-based fuels
Behavioral changes in consumption habits, transportation, and power consumption
While the first six points are in the hands of government decisions, regulations and commercial companies, the last and no less critical point for change is in our hands and involves small changes that we can make to keep the planet evergreen

SAY NO TO PLASTIC
by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean then fish
SAVE THE OCEAN
GETTING AROUND
Emissions from private cars reaches just under one billion tons of CO2 each year which is around 2.5% of total global emission
Reducing upper speed limits to 100 km/h
phasing out polluting cars by investing in an electric or hybrid vehicle
Carsharing
using public transport
cycling
walking
Waste is a design flaw.
Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution.
WATER USAGE
Excess water usage diverts water from rivers, bays, and estuaries, which therefore damage the environment. Also, water and wastewater treatment cost an energy investment in treating, pumping, and heating it.
WATER IS LIFETAKE CARE OF IT
what will our children say if they find out we knew, and did nothing?
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
Fossil fuels causes air pollution even before being burned, produce large quantities of carbon dioxide when burned (in the U.S alone burning fossil fuels accounts for about three-quarters of our carbon emissions.), causing ocean acidification which endanger marine life.
Switch your energy supplier to one with renewable energy.
Use Solar powered water heaters.
Try to minimize usage of vehicles that go on fossil fuels especially private cars and planes.
TRASH
Each kilo of plastic has a carbon footprint of about 6 kilos of CO2, meaning that 120kg of CO2, per household, per year. Moreover plastic doesn’t break down, and often gets washed into the ocean contaminates it and harms marine life.
How can i help?
Contribute to the recycling effort by
sorting your garbage.
Reuse materials for new purposes – get crafty!
Avoid all single-use disposable plastic items.
Carry your own cup.
Bring your own bag to the supermarket
FOOD WASTE
Food accounts for 10-30% of a household's carbon while the production accounts for 68% of the emissions and transportation accounts for a another 5% . Nevertheless third of all food produce go to waste
How to avoid food waste?
Never hit the supermarket hungry
Plan a list of the groceries you need and try to sticking with it.
Plan out the whole week’s meals in advance.
Empty your plate and use a smaller plate to avoid loading more than you can eat.
Understand expiration dates. (Food expiration dates refer to the product’s quality, not its safety.)
Use leftovers.
Compost organic waste
A simple plastic bag seems harmless, but it can represent extreme suffering – and even death – for thousands of animals in the oceans. Depicting this unfortunate truth through strong images, Sea Shepherd, an NGO focused on the conservation of marine wildlife, is launching a plastic awareness campaign.
3D ads have been created in partnership between Tribal Worldwide São Paulo and DDB Guatemala, that bear the caption, “The plastic you use once tortures the oceans forever.”
CONSUMPTION
As the demand for goods increases, the need to produce these goods also increases. This leads to more pollutant emissions, increased land-use and deforestation, and accelerated climate change
- Buy less (live less consumerist lifestyle)
Use your purchasing power by supporting ecofriendly products.
Shop secondhand whenever you can.
Buy products with as little packaging or wraps as possible.
Avoid rushed shipping (by air)
Buy more items together to minimize shipments
Support brands with eco packaging
The polar bear for many has become a living symbol of the dangers of global warming. The powerful kings of the arctic are finding their habitat shrinking.
Isreal’s First Pro-Vegan T.V Advert Reaches 35% Of Population
A new pro-vegan television advert – Israel’s first – has reached 35 percent of the nation’s population, Plant Based News can reveal, by being broadcast during one of the country’s most popular T.V shows.
The advert was created by Vegan Friendly – an international non-profit organization that seeks to end animal suffering and tackle the climate crisis by promoting plant-based food – a mission it has committed to ‘working tirelessly’ towards.
TRAVEL
Emissions from flights are concerning because aircraft emissions are released high in the atmosphere and have a potent climate impact, triggering chemical reactions and atmospheric effects that heat the planet.
Cut back on air travel – use alternatives like travel by trains or sails when possible.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
All forms of electricity generation have an environmental impact on our air, water, and land. Producing and using electricity more efficiently reduces both the amount of fuel needed to generate electricity and the amount of greenhouse gases and other air pollution emitted as a result
When purchasing a new appliance, look for the Energy Star label.
Turn of the lights when you are not In the room
Set your AC on 25°C and don’t forget to turn it off when leaving the room/home.
BOTTOM LINE
Saving the planet seems like an impossible task. But if everyone does just a little bit, bringing their own bags to the store or walking to work, over time, these small changes will add up to a big impact on the environment.
No effort is too trivial — so pick one of these new habits and take action today!
